The Science of Safe and Simple
The Problem
Most Peanut Butters Are a Hidden Risk for Dogs
Solution
One Ingredient. Dog-Safe Guaranteed.
The Hidden Danger in Your Peanut Butter Jar
Most dog owners know to avoid chocolate, grapes and onions. But peanut butter is a known and trusted treat loved by our dogs. Yet an increasing number of human peanut butters, including those marketed as healthy, sugar-free or low-calorie, now contain xylitol.
Xylitol is toxic to our dogs, even a small amount can cause a rapid, dangerous drop in blood sugar, seizures, liver damage and in serious cases, even death. Symptoms can start in as little as 30 minutes. Xylitol is often listed on labels as "birch sugar" or "sugar alcohol" which makes spotting it even harder.
That's why we introduced Paw by Four Peanut Butter for Dogs.
Dog-Safe, always, no exceptions.
One ingredient - 100% peanuts. No xylitol, no salt, no sugar, no palm oil, no stablisers, no emulsifers. No hidden ingredients. Every batch is produced in a dedicated UK facility where xylitol is never present, with full traceability from peanut to jar.
Five Ways to Use It
1. On a Lick Mat
Spread onto any Paw by Four lickmat - The Travel Buddy, The Steady Eddie or The Brave Maker. The repetitive licking action activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing cortisol and extending calm. This is ideal to use before you leave, during grooming sessions or trips to the vet.
2. For Hiding Medication
The thick, sticky texture and powerful peanut aroma are widely recommended by vets for disguising tablets. Roll a small amount of peanut butter around the tablet, making sure it's fully coated, before giving it to your dog. For most dogs, all they smell is the peanut butter, not the tablet.
3. As a High-Value Training Reward
Peanut butter is an effective high-value reward for recall training, confidence building and learning new skills, as well as for desensitisation work. You only need a small amount per reward and 1 to 2 teaspoons is enough for a full training session.
4. In a Kong or Puzzle Feeder
Mix peanut butter with yoghurt, mashed banana or wet kibble and freeze overnight. This provides a great distraction and enrichment for your dog during your morning departure, crate training or for a rainy day activity.
5. Straight from the spoon
Sometimes we all just deserve a moment of uncomplicated joy!
Why Our Peanut Butter Is Different
Our UK manufacturer, a family co-operative, uses traditional low-temperature stone-grinding rather than high-speed industrial processing. This preserves the natural red peanut skin which is shown to increase fibre, phenolic content and antioxidant activity, retains heat-sensitive vitamins including B1, B3, B9 and Vitamin E, and produces a naturally thick, creamy texture with no need for stabilisers or emulsifers.
The result is a peanut butter that tastes better, contains more of the nutritional value of the peanut and carries nothing that shouldn't be there.
