The Science of Safe and Simple

The Science of Safe and Simple

One ingredient, one promise and one clear guarantee.

Paw by Four Peanut Butter for Dogs is produced by a UK family cooperative using traditional low-temperature stone-grinding, a method that preserves the natural red peanut skin which is shown to increase fibre, phenolic content and antioxidant activity, and retains heat-sensitive vitamins including B1, B3, B9 and Vitamin E.

Because no stabilisers or emulsifers are used, the natural peanut oil may separate when the jar is left. This is not a defect, simply stir before you use it and it will return to a rich, creamy consistency.

Every batch is manufactured in a dedicated UK facility where xylitol is never present. Only one ingredient on the label and full traceability from peanut to jar.

The Problem

Most Peanut Butters Are a Hidden Risk for Dogs

Xylitol - a sugar substitute increasingly found in "sugar-free" and "low-calorie" peanut butters - is toxic to dogs. Even a small amount can cause a dangerous drop in their blood sugar, seizures, liver damages or even death. Symptoms can start within 30 minutes.

The labelling problem makes this even harder to navigate as xylitol is often listed as "birch sugar" or "sugar alcohol". Xylitol may not even appear prominently on the label even when it's actually present.

Besides xylitol, many commercial peanut butters have added sugar, salt, palm oil and stabilisers, none of which belong in your dog's daily treats.

Solution

One Ingredient. Dog-Safe Guaranteed.

Paw by Four Peanut Butter for Dogs contains exactly one ingredient: Peanuts. No xylitol, no salt, no sugar, no palm oil, no stabilisers and no emulsifiers. Nothing that does not belong in your dog's bowl.

Every batch is produced by a UK family co-operative using traditional low-temperature stone-grinding - a method that preserves the natural red peanut skin, retains heat-sensitive vitamins including B1, B3, B9 and Vitamin E, and requires no additives to achieve its rich, creamy texture.

The result is a peanut butter you can spread on a lick mat, load into a Kong, use in training or give to your dog directly from the spoon, knowing you are giving your dog a treat that won't harm them.

The Hidden Danger in Your Peanut Butter Jar

Most dog owners know to avoid chocolate, grapes and onions.  But peanut butter is a known and trusted treat loved by our dogs.  Yet an increasing number of human peanut butters, including those marketed as healthy, sugar-free or low-calorie, now contain xylitol.

Xylitol is toxic to our dogs, even a small amount can cause a rapid, dangerous drop in blood sugar, seizures, liver damage and in serious cases, even death.  Symptoms can start in as little as 30 minutes.  Xylitol is often listed on labels as "birch sugar" or "sugar alcohol" which makes spotting it even harder.

That's why we introduced Paw by Four Peanut Butter for Dogs.

Dog-Safe, always, no exceptions.

One ingredient - 100% peanuts.  No xylitol, no salt, no sugar, no palm oil, no stablisers, no emulsifers.  No hidden ingredients.  Every batch is produced in a dedicated UK facility where xylitol is never present, with full traceability from peanut to jar.

Five Ways to Use It

1. On a Lick Mat

Spread onto any Paw by Four lickmat - The Travel Buddy, The Steady Eddie or The Brave Maker.  The repetitive licking action activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing cortisol and extending calm.  This is ideal to use before you leave, during grooming sessions or trips to the vet.

2. For Hiding Medication

The thick, sticky texture and powerful peanut aroma are widely recommended by vets for disguising tablets.  Roll a small amount of peanut butter around the tablet, making sure it's fully coated, before giving it to your dog.  For most dogs, all they smell is the peanut butter, not the tablet.

3. As a High-Value Training Reward

Peanut butter is an effective high-value reward for recall training, confidence building and learning new skills, as well as for desensitisation work.  You only need a small amount per reward and 1 to 2 teaspoons is enough for a full training session.

4. In a Kong or Puzzle Feeder

Mix peanut butter with yoghurt, mashed banana or wet kibble and freeze overnight.  This provides a great distraction and enrichment for your dog during your morning departure, crate training or for a rainy day activity.

5. Straight from the spoon

Sometimes we all just deserve a moment of uncomplicated joy!

Why Our Peanut Butter Is Different

Our UK manufacturer, a family co-operative, uses traditional low-temperature stone-grinding rather than high-speed industrial processing.  This preserves the natural red peanut skin which is shown to increase fibre, phenolic content and antioxidant activity, retains heat-sensitive vitamins including B1, B3, B9 and Vitamin E, and produces a naturally thick, creamy texture with no need for stabilisers or emulsifers.

The result is a peanut butter that tastes better, contains more of the nutritional value of the peanut and carries nothing that shouldn't be there.

Pure peanut butter without additives is safe for dogs in moderation. It provides protein, healthy fats and B vitamins. The critical concern is xylitol, this is a sugar substitute that is found in many human peanut butters that is toxic to our dogs. Paw by Four Peanut Butter for Dogs contains only 100% peanuts and nothing else, and is manufactured in a dedicated xylitol-free facility.

No. Paw by Four Peanut Butter for Dogs only contains one ingredient: 100% peanuts. It is manufactured in a dedicated UK facility where xylitol is never present. The ingredient list contains no xylitol, no birch sugar, no sugar alcohol or any other additives of any kind.

Portion size does depend on the size of your dog but we recommend no more than a quarter of a teaspoon for toy breeds up to 1 tablespoon for giant breeds. As with all treats, the daily portions should be within 10% of your dog's total daily calorie intake. Peanut butter is calorie-dense so if you are using it regularly you may need to adjust your dog's main meals.

Natural oil separation is completely normal. Because we have not used any stabilisers or emulsifers, the natural peanut oil separates when the jar is left standing. Simply stir thoroughly before use and it will return to its creamy consistency.

Because it contains 100% peanuts and no additives, it is generally more gentle than many commercial treats. However, peanut butter is high in fat so we suggest you introduce it gradually. Start with around half a teaspoon and monitor your dog's reaction over 24 hours. If your dog has a history of pancreatitis, check with your vet before you use it.

Yes, definitely. It works really well with plain yoghurt, mashed banana or softened kibble on lick mats and puzzle feeders. Always avoid chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic and any food the contains xylitol when you mix ingredients.
